The last Bougie Issue broke down the 9 different types of rest, and today I want to focus on one of them:
ACTIVE PHYSICAL REST
As a mental health therapist and certified yoga instructor, I have experienced the benefits of incorporating yoga into my rest routine firsthand.
Yoga is a low impact form of exercise that helps release tension and promote relaxation in your body. Through a series of poses and controlled breathing, yoga can benefit you in many ways:
- Improves Flexibility: Yoga can help lengthen your muscles, which improves your flexibility over time.
- Increases Strength: Many yoga poses can help build strength in your muscles.
- Reduces Stress: Yoga can reduce stress levels by promoting relaxation and reducing tension in your body.
- Improves Posture: Practicing yoga regularly can improve your posture by strengthening the muscles in your back and core.
- Enhances Balance: Many yoga poses require balance and stability, which can improve your overall balance and coordination.
- Boosts Energy Levels: Yoga can increase your energy levels by reducing fatigue and improving circulation.
- Promotes Better Sleep: Yoga can help you relax and unwind, which can lead to better sleep quality and more restful nights.
- Relieves Pain: Yoga can help relieve pain in the body by stretching and releasing tension in tight muscles.
- Increases Body Awareness: Practicing yoga regularly can help you connect with your body and become more aware of how it moves, which can improve your overall physical coordination and performance.
